Nine members of Sydney University’s Women’s Australian Football Club helped NSW to win the Division 2 title at the Women’s AFL National Championships held in Adelaide last week.

The Queen’s Birthday long-weekend provided a welcome break for most winter sports at the halfway mark of the season. Sydney University teams will be back in action this weekend with finals finishes in line for many teams.

In a very tactical affair, Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program scholarship holder Lachlan Renshaw finished fourth in the 800m track event at the New York Diamond League over the weekend.

Having already qualified for the 2012 Australian Olympic Games team, Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Scholarship holder and pentathlete Ed Fernon has continued his great form finishing third over the weekend at the Epee Fencing Nationals in Adelaide.

Sydney Uni Swim Club member Andrew Abood has been chosen to represent Australia at the 2011 World University Games which will be held in Shenzen, China from 13 – 23 August after reaching semi-finals in the 50m and 100m freestyle events at the recent Australian Swimming Championships.

A controversial decision after full-time saw Manly hold on to defeat Sydney University 25-19 in their round 10 Shute Shield match at Manly Oval on Saturday.

Alex Croak, a Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program member and diver, has all but secured her selection on the Australian diving World Championship team after winning the women’s 10m synchro platform at the 2011 Australian Selection Trials over the weekend.

Over the last 12 months the Sydney Uni Kendo Club (SUKC) has experienced some of the most successful results the club has ever achieved, highlighted by Kelvin Tran’s gold in the Kyu-team tournament (non-black belt) representing NSW at the Australian Kendo Championships held on the Gold Coast in April this year.
