The University of Sydney has come agonisingly close to defending their 2011 Australian University Championship (AUC) Snow Sports title, after finishing second behind The University of Melbourne following a frenetic final day of action at Mt Buller, Victoria.

University of Sydney swimmer Prue Watt stole the show on the final weekend of the London 2012 Paralympics, winning gold, as University of Sydney athletes finished their collective Paralympic campaigns with an impressive haul of seven medals – the same number as our Olympians.

Day 8 was a massive day of Paralympic action for University of Sydney athletes, with the Gliders winning through to the gold medal women’s wheelchair basketball game and Angela Ballard winning her second medal of the competition on the track.

The Australian women’s wheelchair basketball team, who entered the 2012 London Paralympics as  far-less likely medal candidates than their male counterparts, will tonight take part in a mouth watering semi-final clash with the USA for a spot in the gold medal match.

Four returning 2012 Sydney Uni Olympians have travelled along with the rest of their senior eights rowing squads to Hamilton, New Zealand, to prepare for Sunday’s annual Gallagher Great Race and further fan the trans-Tasman rivalry on the mighty Waikato River.

All seven teams from Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) are in action this weekend, with the Colts playing in their three respective Grand Finals and the Club’s four Grade teams doing battle in Elimination Preliminary Finals to secure their place in the 2012 Grade Grand Finals to be played next weekend.

Sydney University athletes Tom Jacobs, Alex Podgorski and Lara Rotrakarn all picked up medals on day 2 of the Australian University Snow Sports Championships at Mt Buller to push Sydney Uni’s medal tally for the week to eight.

The Sydney University Handball Club (SUHC) have turned their attention to once again winning the Oceania Champions Cup after competing as one of the eight club teams at the International Handball Federation (IHF) SuperGlobe tournament in Doha, Qatar.

The Sydney Uni American Football team were pushed all the way to final whistle, but showed plenty of steel to prevail 6-2 against UTS in Round 2 of the NSW Gridiron Football League to maintain a 29 year undefeated streak against the rival university.
