World class competition at the NSW State Open Swimming Championships on the weekend enabled Sydney University swimmers to produce some top quality performances of their own.

8 year old Lewis Blackburn become the first Sydney Uni Swimmer ever to qualify for all for sprint finals at the Speedo sprint final held at Bexley pool over the weekend.

Murray Stewart has continued his impressive form of 2008 producing a fantastic performance at Grand Prix 2 to win the men’s K1 500m final over Olympic champion Ken Wallace.

At the conclusion of the Round 21 WNBL match on Friday night, Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness and its supporters donated $7000 to the Bendigo Bank Bushfire Appeal. In the face of the growing millions of dollars donated to the Red Cross, it was a relative small sum of money, but one that touched Kristi Harrower, Opal and Captain of the Bendigo Spirit, as she accepted the gift on behalf of the Bendigo community.

Sydney Uni Boat Club is among the oldest sporting club at Sydney University – but they sure do have some great young blood pumping through their club at the moment!

The weather played a major role in our annual 3 day battle against Melbourne. This time Melbourne travelled north and with the first day and a half washed out, improvisation was needed.

More than 80 swimmers, parents and coaches attended the recent Sydney University Swimming Club’s education seminar with Paul Penna. The session was designed for the clubs high school aged swimmers and was targeted at being able to “Juggle your Education and your Swimming commitments”.

Despite soaring temperatures at the Sydney International Regatta Centre across the weekend, Sydney University rowers reigned supreme at the NSW Rowing Championships. Sydney Uni easily won the overall point score, making it the 7th consecutive year that Sydney University has been the premier rowing club in NSW.

Congratulations to Sydney University’s Nicole Beck, Alexandra Hargreaves and Amanda Judd who were selected as members of the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens, World Cup Team.
