Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWPC) stars Keesja Gofers and Lea Barta have been named in the Northern Team for the annual National Water Polo League All-Star game to be played in Brisbane during the U14 National Championships on the Easter Long Weekend.

Representatives from all 12 national league teams play in a North-South confrontation, and Gofers and Barta have been the standout performers in a Lions team that has scored some great wins but has rebounded with some disappointing losses.

Last week the Lions had the ball in the net for a seemingly brilliant victory over national league heavyweights the Brisbane Barracudas, only to have the goal disallowed for a 9-9 tie which resulted in a shattering shootout defeat. The Lions didn’t recover from that disappointment to be soundly beaten in game two.

The following evening Sydney Uni showed plenty of character to inflict the Drummoyne Devils’ heaviest defeat of the season, a 13-5 drubbing, with Gofers – a SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder – leading the way with five goals.

This weekend the Lions go on the road for two all-important showdowns in Adelaide against the high flying Jets.
