Wins at the weekend in the two-day Belvedere Cup and the limited over competitions have kept Sydney University’s hopes alive for both 2008-09 titles.
A solid innings of 73 from Dave Butchart and Matthew Morgan’s unbeaten 63 helped Sydney University gain first innings points over Campbelltown-Camden at Raby Oval on Saturday, while Greg Mail (75), Will Hay (48) and Ben Larkin (45) helped the Students chase down Hawkesbury’s 9-211 with five balls to spare in the 50-over game at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Sunday.
Bankstown head the Belvedere Cup competition on 56 points after seven rounds. Gordon (50), St George (42), Campbelltown-Camden (40) and Hawkesbury (40) make up the top four, while Sydney University lie 11th – still in the mix – on 37 points.
Hawkesbury head the limited over competition after six rounds on (34 points), with Bankstown, (32), Penrith (28), Campbelltown-Camden (28) and Gordon (28) keeping Sydney University (25) in 6th position.
The Students are much better placed in the Club Championship, which is headed by Gordon on 715 points, followed by St George (683), Penrith (671) and Sydney University (669).
