Former SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Will Ryan and his skipper Mat Belcher have won their first sailing world 470 title together in the waters off La Rochelle in France.

Incredibly, it was the ninth consecutive regatta win by the pair since joining forces in the wake of the 2012 London Olympics.

Ryan and Belcher this morning beat hosts Pierre Leboucher and Nicolas Le Berre, with the highly fancied Greek pairing of Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis in third place.

The pair, campaigning for the 2016 Rio Olympics, are the first Australians to win an Olympic class sailing world title this year.

Will has two sisters – Sasha and Jaime – who also sail and are SUSF EAP scholarship holders.
