Sydney University Lions men’s and women’s teams are in contention for qualifying finals in the National Water Polo League with one round of the competition proper to be played.

The men’s team posted a loss and a win in their Round 11 matches at the Peter Montgomery Pool, Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre on Friday and Sunday.

The hosts lost 14-11 to Drummoyne Devils and Friday night before accounting for UTS Balmain Tigers 15-6 on Sunday afternoon.

Sydney University’s women’s side defeated Drummoyne Devils 11-9 on Friday, but lost 10-7 to UTS Balmain Tigers on Sunday.

Drummoyne Devils maintained the lead of the men’s ladder on 16 points after 18 games, with UNSW Wests Magpies (65), Fremantle Mariners (47), Hunter Hurricanes (45), Sydney University Lions (37) and Queensland Thunder (30) making up the top six.

The women’s ladder is headed by UTS Balmain Tigers on 64 points, with UNSW Wests Tigers (55), Queensland Thunder (51), Fremantle Marlins (41), Sydney University Lions (33) and ACU Cronulla Sharks (32) making up the top six.

Sydney University Lions 15 defeated UTS Balmain Tigers 6 at Peter Montgomery Pool, Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre on Sunday.

 

Women: Sydney University Lions 11 defeated Drummoyne Devils 9 at Peter Montgomery Pool, Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre.

UTS Balmain Tigers 10 defeated Sydney University Lions 7 at Peter Montgomery Pool, Sydney University Sports and Fitness Centre.
