It is with great sadness that Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness and the Sydney University Football Club announces that Joe Welch, son of Gabrielle Trainor and Peter Welch and brother to Jack and Thomas, died tragically on Saturday, 5 February 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand following a swimming incident.
Joe had a very promising rugby future ahead of him, having been a NSW and Australian Schoolboy representative in 2009 and was an emerging talent within SUFC’s Colts program, after only one season with the Club in 2010.
Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with the Welch family in this very difficult time.
Joe’s funeral will occur on Thursday 10 Feb 10:30am St Mary’s Catholic Church.
