The Universities Women’s Cricket Club (UWCC) is holding the top position on the competition ladder after six rounds of the Sydney Women’s First Grade competition; after the girls continued their fine start to the season with a six wicket win over Northern Districts in on Sunday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Northern Districts made just 142 after being bowled out in 42.2 overs in the fifty-overs a side match. All-rounder Felicity Goodwin collected 2/4, while part time spinner and wicket keeper Emily Mifsud continued to lead the bowling honours for the competition with an impressive 1/9 off five miserly overs.

The home side was not challenged with the chase, reaching the victory target in just 27.4 overs. Alex Blackwell top scored with a typically busy 52 not out from 58 balls, while Erin Burns maintained her good form with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 32 from 21 deliveries.

UWCC, backed by both Sydney University and University of NSW, is in first position on the competition ladder in front of defending champions Bankstown Sports, with Gordon and Campbelltown-Camden sharing third.
