Sydney University experienced a great opening day of the 2011 Australian University Snow Sports Championships in Thredbo, with athletes winning two gold medals and one bronze.

Elite Athlete Program scholarship holder Lavinia Chrystal won Sydney University’s first gold medal of the Championships with victory in the Alpine Giant Slalom (skiing). Chrystal also secured a bronze medal in the Snowboard Giant Slalom (skiing). This was a remarkable achievement considering Chrystal hadn’t competed in a snowboard event in over five years.

Cameron Batton took home gold in the men’s Snowboard Giant Slalom.

Sydney University also achieved some quality results to back up these highlights, which puts the University in a really good position for the overall victory.
