Sydney University has finished with five medals on the fourth and final day competition at the Eastern University Games in Tamworth.

The men’s basketball team finished the week off well after defeating CSU in the bronze medal playoff. Despite also winning their bronze medal game, the women’s team received a silver medal after the MQE team were withdrawn.

The sport of touch football also accumulated two medals after the women’s team defeated UC in the gold medal match, and the men finished with silver after going down 3-2 to a very strong ANU side. Despite finishing in 15th position, the mixed side had a fun week and developed their skills in preparation for the next regional games.

Sydney University’s last medal of the week went to the ultimate frisbee team who secured a bronze medal after taking care of a feisty UTS side 10-6.

Both Futsal teams finished their campaigns in similar positions. The men finished 5th and the women 4th. The last days play saw the women collect their second win of the tournament over ACPE, while the men were feeling the effects of a long week and slumped to a tough loss against ANU.

Sydney Uni’s loan golfer started the week very promisingly, but in his first uni games campaign he fell short on the last day. Over the four rounds Tim managed to finish 10th out of the 17-strong field.

The lawn bowls teams limped to the finish line on Thursday as both teams failed to notch up a win. Spirits were high however and the students had a great week in Tamworth with many of them keen to come back for another year.

The netballers were stoked to grab their third win of the tournament to help them finish 11th out of 16 teams. The team was pulled together at the eleventh hour, so the result is not too bad considering this.
