At least two teams will represent Sydney Uni Hockey Club (SUHC) in grand finals in a fortnights time, after the women’s 1sts and the under 17’s mixed team’s earned the right to play in respective deciders.

Sydney Uni’s women’s 1sts (Sydney Women’s Hockey League Metro I minor premiers) proved far too strong for the team they defeated in last year’s grand final on Sunday, winning their major semi-final against Briars by the same scoreline, 3-1.

The club’s mixed under 17’s were just as clinical, easily accounting for minor premiers Kings Langley. The final score was 5-2.

Sydney Uni also produced wins in a number of minor semi-finals to stay alive and progress to this week’s elimination finals. The women’s 7ths won 4-1, men’s 7ths won 3-2, while the mixed under 15’s won 4-0.

The club’s women’s 2nds, 4ths, 6ths and 8ths all lost but will live to fight another day in elimination finals this Sunday.

The fairy-tale run of the men’s Premier League Hockey team came to end on Saturday, with Sydney Uni defeated 4-3 by Moorebank.

Dominating for the large periods of the game and playing in their first semi-final in more than 25 years, the clubs understrength premier men’s team pushed an undefeated Moorebank outfit all of the way in front of more than 250 fanatical SUHC supporters.

Amazingly, Sydney Uni lead 3-2 with 20 minutes left on the clock against a team made up almost entirely of representative players from around NSW. In the end four short corner conversions from Moorebank proved the difference, despite Sydney Uni controlling the game against an increasingly desperate opposition.
