Sydney Uni Scholarship holders Derek Mulhearn and Lauren Bourke, along with Derek’s younger brother Jordan won the Men’s Team event in the NSW Teams Walks Championships, which were held at the Penrith Regatta Centre on Sunday.
This was one of three state championships run by NSW athletics over the winter season and was the only teams event.
Lauren Bourke forfeited the women’s race, thus an individual placing and ranking for the women’s championship, just so that Sydney Uni could enter a men’s team.
This was a big effort as it was her first competition in a number of months as she has and still is plagued by a few injuries,’ said Derek Mulhearn.
Thankfully her efforts were rewarded with the Sydney Uni team securing first place.
Derek also placed 1st in the Open Men’s making him State Champion and his younger brother Jordan placed 3rd.
