The debit side of the ledger at Allan Border Oval on Saturday reveals Sydney University bowlers sent down 96 overs for a return of three wickets.

The credit columns reveal Mosman helped themselves to 415 runs, with openers Nicholas Browne (206) and David Lowery (110) putting on 252 before Joe Kershaw interrupted proceedings with a successful lbw appeal against the latter.

Browne went on to crack 31 boundaries in his 260-ball stay, becoming the first English County player to score a double century in the Sydney First Grade competition.

An Essex player during the Australian winter, Browne bettered Mike Gatting’s 194 for Balmain against Central Cumberland in 1979.

And the opening stand  was the second highest in Mosman’s history, behind the unbeaten 325-run opening stand between Bede McCauley and Gordon Horsfield back in 1950.

Mosman captain Matthew Day, who was unbeaten on 40 at stumps on the first day of the two-day encounter, will probably figure he has enough in the credit columns to allow his bowlers to expend some energy when play resumes on Saturday morning.
