Each year, the outstanding academic performers of our Elite Athlete Program from the previous year are recognised through the award of several special scholarships. These are the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships and the Senate Scholarships. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to hold our annual Sports Awards Dinner in which these student athletes would have been celebrated. So, in lieu of the Dinner, please read on to learn more about our top-performing academic athletes in 2019.

Nick takes pride in being a student athlete and says the lifestyle of studying and sport really suits him. He says he has learned a lot from playing a team sport especially interacting with others and supporting others with mental health. While playing in Sydney University Australian National Football Club’s NEAFL team, Nick is on-track to finish his degree in 2020 and become a qualified teacher. Additionally, it is an ambition of his to teach in another part of the world.

Tim hopes to become a biomedical engineer and to one day work in finding solutions with meaningful healthcare outcomes for people globally. Tim was nominated for the Sydney University Academic Excellence Award at the 2019 NSWIS Awards and has maintained HD average throughout his studies, all the while travelling and competing full-time in canoe slalom for the last 5 years.
