With the business end of the Sydney water polo season well under way, Sydney University features in most divisions.

The Lions M3 side staged a come-from-behind 7-6 grand final win over Wests at the weekend. Fielding a good mix of seasoned veterans and Under 16 players, the Lions showed plenty of patience against a team full of experience, who played an aggressive brand of water polo.

The Lions were superb in defence and kept the scoreline close to add the major premiership to their minor premiership.

Sydney University Lions also collected the M2 title with a 14-7 result after leading 9-1 at half-time, having already collected the minor premiership.

And the Lions advanced to the grand final of the Under 18 competition after defeating Drummoyne Devils 11-2 in the final. They’ll be joined on grand final day by the Under 14s who also advanced to the season decider.

The Lions also won the First Division Club Championship, with all grades making the finals and only the M5 and Under 16s missing grand final berths.

Meanwhile, Derby Day at the Drummoyne Pool saw Sydney University come from behind to defeat the hosts 10-9 to keep their National Men’s Water Polo League dreams alive. Down 4-nil at half-time and 8-3 at the final break, the Lions turned in a great last quarter to edge ahead.
