Alexandra South,a Sydney University Elite Program scholarship holder, has been selected in the Australian University Sport (AUS) sailing team to compete at the 2011 Summer Universiade, which takes place from August 11 – 23 in Shenzhen, China.

South, 19, who is studying a Bachelor of Political, Economic and Social Sciences, is also a member of the Australian sailing squad.

She competes in the radial class and currently ranks 80th in the ISAF world rankings. South has taken part in one World Cup event this season where she finished 29th at the Sail Melbourne International Regatta.

The selection of South takes Sydney University’s athlete representation at the 2011 Summer Universiade to nine. The other eight athletes are: Anneliese Rubie, Lachlan Renshaw, James Nipperess (Athletics), Nick Davies (Fencing), Philip Grenfell (Cycling), Katie-Rae Ebzery (Basketball), Scott Nicholson and Lachlan Hollis (Water Polo).
