The awarding of Blues is a proud tradition that originated at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and continues today at leading British and Australian institutions, including the University of Sydney.

A Blue is a prestigious award granted to student-athletes who have competed at the highest level in their sport while representing the University, and who have demonstrated outstanding sporting achievement.

At Sydney Uni Sport, Blues are nominated in October, following the conclusion of the University sporting calendar. Recipients are formally recognised at the annual Blues Dinner, where they earn the right to wear the traditional Blue and Gold striped Blues jacket at all future events.

Alongside Blues, the University also recognises exceptional individuals through the awarding of University Golds. This honour celebrates those who have made an extraordinary contribution to University sport—whether through leadership, service, or performance over an extended period.

The Blues Association at Sydney Uni Sport continues to uphold the tradition by supporting Blues sporting scholarships and hosting reunions for past Blues and Gold recipients throughout the year.
