Sydney University 1 Men caused an upset in the Grade 1/1 final of the XPoint Spring Badge on Saturday when Kevin Ye and Tobi Glienke lined up against competition minor premiers Canterbury Bankstown 1 on their courts in the premiership decider.

The University boys won the first set tie-breaker in a thriller and then sealed the victory with a solid 6-4 win in the second set.

The win caps off a remarkable season for Ye, who came to Sydney University in August on a one semester study abroad program from Ohio‘s Kenyon College.

“It’s been awesome to compete for Sydney University at the Australian University Games and in the Badge comp,” Ye said.

“I’ll be trying my best to come back again next year.”

In the Ladies Grade 1/2 final, Sydney University’s Fernanda Feres and Mia Price found the going tough at Western Suburbs, with the home team taking out the trophy in straight sets.
