Sydney University will be the destination for some of Australia’s top tennis talent on Wednesday November 6, when the Sydney University Lawn Tennis Club plays host to the official launch of the 2013 Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL).

Staged on the luscious grass Manning Tennis Courts inside The University of Sydney, and proudly supported by Egan Associates, spectators will enjoy free access to a unique, fast-paced and highly competitive team tennis competition.

Wednesday’s program is the first round of the 2013 ATL and the day begins with the ladies competition at 11.30am, where the Sydney Uni Lions take on the NSTA Angels.

After a short break between 2.30pm-3.15pm – where spectators will enjoy a free BBQ, strawberries and cream and a raffle – the Sydney University men’s team will play against the Stanmore Wyverns. There will also be other club clashes occurring during the course of the day.

Seven of Sydney Uni’s men’s players are University of Sydney students, while there are five University of Sydney students on the ladies team. Many are also current or former Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) scholarship holders. Students Michael Power and Bianca Partington are the respective men’s and ladies Sydney Uni Lions captains.

Each ATL state conference comprises five men’s and five ladies teams who will battle it out for the $95,000 prize pool on offer and a place in the ATL Finals, which will be held in Melbourne during the second week of the 2014 Australian Open.

This year’s ATL is pack full of stars and features Grand Slam Champion Sandon Stolle, as well as current professions such as Casey Dellacqua, Monique Adamzcak, James Duckworth (Queensland Conference), Matt Reid and world number one junior Nick Krygios.

This is the first year that Sydney University’s Elite Men’s and Ladies teams have qualified for the ATL, so don’t miss the opportunity to witness this momentous occasion.

Entry and lunch is free, and there will be some great giveaways on the day, including a trip for four people to the 2014 Australian Open in Melbourne.
