Sydney University Wrestling Club has secured a historical victory, taking out the NSW State Cup this past weekend. The club’s first competition win since its founding.
The event brought together wrestlers from across the country. Out of 113 total participants, 18 competitors proudly represented Sydney University Wrestling Club, making up one of the largest contingents in the tournament.
Among the standout performers was Vladimir Zvev-Elbancha, who placed 5th in his division. His strong results capped off an impressive showing across the squads, with several USYD students also stepping onto the mats and contributing to the club’s overall victory.
This milestone marks a significant moment for the club, which has experienced steady growth over the past few years. To be state champions now is a credit to the dedication of the athletes and coaches.
This win not only cements Sydney University Wrestling Club’s place on the state stage but also signals exciting opportunities for further success as the team looks ahead to future competitions.
