For your weekend reading pleasure we provide you with our November update around the activities of the Sydney University RLFC.

The Balcony BBQ Bash on 11 December 2013
We head into the Christmas season with our Balcony BBQ Bash.

We have had a very positive response to this event from supporters, and want as many people to attend the event as possible.  We want to engage with the community around the Club, and look forward to meeting you all there.

To assist with catering numbers we do request that you register for the event using the following link: http://www.eventbrite.com.au/org/4752285757?s=19525527

If you require any assistance with registration, please call our volunteer admin Ellani on (02) 8263 6631, as she will be more than happy to assist.

Affiliation with Newtown Jets
Yes, we are now affiliated with the Newtown Jets! Terry Rowney, Stuart McCarthy and Olga Lauricella will be joining us at the Balcony BBQ Bash, so join us to welcome them!

We believe that the affiliation will have significant benefits for SURLFC.  One immediate benefit is that this move will assist our Club’s visibility amongst the broader rugby league community.  For example, the Jets announcement of the affiliation on its Twitter account which has 3,000 followers was promoted by the NSW Rugby League which has over 20,000 followers.

Honorary Advisory Committee
We would like to announce that the Club has established an Honourary Advisory Committee.

We will let you know the names of the committee members once the composition of the Committee is finliased.

This is an important development for the Club.  The committee comprises a core group of talented and respected past players to assist the Committee as we work towards re-building our Club.

Community
One of our key aims is to engage with the community of past players and the broader community around the Club, which has so far, been great!

We are currently in discussions with a number of community organisations which will be a part of our community for 2014.  These arrangements will not only be of a benefit to the Club but also to those organisation.

Preseason Training for 2014
Pre-season training and touch football will commence on Tuesday, 7 January 2014 at 6.30pm at St Andrews Oval at the Sydney University.

As is traditional, all are welcome to attend these initial sessions and have a run with our players.  The more serious stuff will commence in about mid to late February.  Further updates on the pre-season will follow.

Recruitment
We are happy to announce we have recruited a new manager, trainer and physiotherapist.

The interview process continues to secure a head coach.  This is a very important role and those interviews are being led by Brian Smith who is delivering quality candidates to the Club.  We expect to have an update in relation to the appointment of a coach in due course.

Volunteers
We have some great volunteers associated with the Club.  As always with any club, volunteers are greatly appreciated.  These people who give us their time and assistance at no cost assist our efforts to rebuild.  Should you have any time or assistance that you can grant to assist the rebuilding of the Club we would love to hear from you.  Please contact Chris Kintis on 02 8263 6639 or at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer.

E-mail addresses
We have recently completed a mail out to about 250 former players for who we do not currently have email addresses.  Should you know any former players or supporters who’d appreciate being kept up to date, please encourage them to forward us an email.

Having just printed, compiled, folded and stamped approximately 250 envelopes our volunteer admin would also really appreciate your efforts if we could obtain some further email addresses!
