The Sydney University Lionesses are emerging as one of the standout forces of the 2025/26 Water Polo NSW Super League, opening their campaign with an exceptional 9-1 record and a string of impressive victories that underline their championship credentials.
Across the opening round, Sydney Uni have demonstrated a perfect blend of attacking sharpness and defensive grit, and their recent performances have only strengthened their standing as one of the competition’s premier teams.
The Lionesses continued their strong early-season form with a disciplined 10-8 win over UNSW Wests, controlling the tempo through structured defence and clever ball movement, and shutting down West’s counterattacks in the final quarter.
In what was already being labelled one of the games of the season, Sydney University handed UTS Balmain their first loss, edging out the previously undefeated league leaders 12-11 in a thrilling contest. Bernadette Doyle and Savannah Henshaw, with 3 goals each, both delivered clutch finishes in key moments. Not only did this win break Balmain’s unbeaten streak, but it also sent a powerful message to the rest of the competition.
Backing up their performances against both UNSW and UTS, the lionesses produced another commanding display, defeating Cronulla 14-11, with Samantha Henderson scoring 4 goals and Luci Marsh 3, with multiple players contributing on the scoresheet and the defence holding firm in key stretches.
With a powerful 9-1 record, wins over top-tier opponents, and a roster filled with multiple scoring threats, Sydney University’s women’s program is shaping up as a force capable of going deep into the finals.
