Sydney University Swim Club has made history by becoming the first club to win the Australian Unity Go Club of the Year twice.

This is the fourth year in succession the Sydney University club has been awarded Gold Go Club status and the second time in three years that the club has taken out the coveted award.

The presentation, which was made at the Australia Telstra Swimming Awards night held in Melbourne on Monday night,  recognised the significant improvement, growth and performance of the club.

The award also acknowledges the strong administration within the Sydney University Swim Club and confirms the clubs standing as a nationally renowned swimming club.

The club’s success can be attributed to the support of Sydney University Sport and Fitness, the hard work of the committee, coaching staff, swimmers, parents and the drive and determination shown from coach Vanessa Smith.

“Go club of the Year is such a prestigious award and highly recognised among the swimming community,” coach Smith said. “I’d like to thank the committee members and coaching staff for their hard work throughout the year.

“It has been an exciting year and without everyone’s commitment and dedication to the club, winning such an award wouldn’t be possible.”

The swim club received a trophy and $5000 from Australian Unity.
