Sydney Uni Sport’s annual Sport’s Awards night returned last week, recognising the achievements, dedication that power the Sydney Uni Sport community in 2025. Here are some of the highlights of how highly devoted individuals and clubs.

The project conducted by Elizabeth Machan & Shane Ball assessed the sleep health of athletes enrolled in the Sydney Uni Sport Elite Athlete Program. The team established a screening pipeline that monitors sleep behaviours at points across the academic year and sporting season, enabling identification of periods where athletes are most vulnerable to poor sleep.

The beginner-friendly, structured introduction to Squash was aimed to reduce barriers to participation. The program, lead by Robert Palmer and John Cowling, saw students coming together across two 10-week blocks per semester and added a women’s-only class to semester 2 to provide a supportive environment for women.

As President of Sydney Uni Archery, Christine Yen strengthened the Archery Club’s governance, financial oversight, and long-term sustainability in a voluntary capacity. She drove significant growth in engagement during Welcome Week and increased activity attendance, and stronger alumni and leadership engagement.

Lilly-Ann was pivotal in strengthening competitive programs and community engagement, fostering a culture of inclusivity, teamwork, and high performance. Under her leadership, the club achieved two consecutive Treloar Shield victories and retained the UniSport National Champions title. Lilly-Ann worked to secure sponsorships for the club and grew club memberships by 20.7%.

Scott Nicholson led Sydney Uni Women’s Water Polo to 2024–2025 AWL silver, helping secure the 2025 Club Championship. As Senior Women’s Coach, he develops U16–Senior athletes, supporting national selections including the Australian U20 squad, and has toured internationally with the Uni Roos.

In 2025, SUAC broke 19 records and produced 10 national champions, including three U20 titleholders, with seven Blues awarded. The Club defended the Treloar Shield, won a 12th straight men’s Winter Premiership, and swept the men’s and women’s titles at UniSport Nationals. SUAC also revived the Target LA program—sending seven athletes to Belgium—and hosted its largest RUNSYDUNI event with nearly 800 participants.

The Snow Sports team were champions in both the men’s and women’s competition, with a total point score of 397 (322 points higher than UTS in 2nd place). The team, made up of 40 student athletes, won a total of 16 Gold, 11 Silver and 12 Bronze in a dominant display in Thredbo.

For the past 2 years as President, Murray has worked on creating the Canoe Polo team at the SUSAC pool. He improved accessibility for competitions across Sydney and Melbourne, and further strengthened club culture through strong governance, budgeting oversight, equipment management, social media promotion, and hosting social events.

Immanuel coached athletes competing in the Australian Masters Championships winning 10 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals. As well as this, Immanuel helped Sydney Uni Swimming on their technique development and was a driving force behind improving club facilities for all gymnasts.

SUFC were crowned overall champions in the men’s and women’s competition at UniSport Nationals, Women’s Epee National Club Team Champions (third year in a row) and Sydney Intervarsity Fencing League Champions (a competition that SUFC created between universities in NSW). Seven club members competed at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany, and many athletes competed for NSW at the Team National Championships.
