Sydney University rowers have been awarded more than a quarter of the available 62 seats in the Australian Rowing Team after exceptional performances at the National Selection trails in Sydney, which concluded last week.

World Champion Bronwen Watson, along with Olympians Matt Ryan, Francis Hegerty, Sally Kehoe and Sarah Cook were amongst the 17 Sydney Uni rowers who will compete at the World Rowing Championships in August.

“It is very pleasing to get an outcome like this after all the hard work that has gone into the program this season. We made just a few small changes with the structure and content of the program from last season and it seems to have paid off,” said Mark Prater, Men’s Elite Development coach for Sydney Uni.

Prater said Sydney Uni Boat Club (Men) and Sydney Uni Rowing Club (Women) were relentless competitors at the trials with a great sense of camaraderie.

“There is a fantastic group of athletes coming through the boatshed now, who work hard, enjoy what they do, and are supportive of their club mates. It’s a great atmosphere to work in,” said Prater.

The Senior A Australian Rowing Team will now compete at the World Championships in Poznan, Poland from the 24th August – 29th August.

And the U23 Australian Rowing Team will now compete in Racice, Czech Republic from the 23rd July – 26th July.
