Sydney University’s men’s handball team are one step closer to qualifying for their third International Handball Federation (IHF) SuperGlobe tournament, after taking out Australian Club Championships at Sydney Olympic Park over the weekend.

Needing to finish in the two-top ranked teams at the Australian Club Championships in order to qualify for June’s Oceania Club Championships, Sydney Uni qualified in style.

Having won all three of their preliminary matches in the lead up to the grand final, Sydney Uni were crowned victors of the Australian Club Championships, after a dramatic 34-28 overtime victory over St Kilda.

Both clubs are through to June’s Oceania Club Championships in New Caledonia. They, along with six other Oceania club teams will battle it out for one spot at this year’s IHF SuperGlobe tournament to be held in Qatar.

If Sydney Uni qualifies for the SuperGlobe, it will be the third time in a row that they have represented Oceania at the world’s largest handball club tournament.
