Sydney University Fencing Club was proudly represented at the 2026 Senior Asian Fencing Championship in New Delhi, India, with six current and former members competing for Australia against the continent’s best.

Current Sydney University students Colin Chen, Mayuri Muralidharan, Ameile Yee and Lorraine Tang were joined by former Sydney University representative Sam Mooney Grand and Genevieve Gilarski, showcasing the strength of the club on one of Asia’s biggest fencing stages.

Australia’s standout team results came in the Men’s Sabre competition, where Colin Chen helped guide the team to an impressive eighth-place finish. After a thrilling comeback victory over host nation India in the Round of 16, Australia progressed to the quarter-finals recording its highest team placing in the championship.

Mayuri Muralidharan was part of the Australian Women’s Foil team that finished ninth overall. Following a narrow opening-round loss, Australia responded with convincing victories over Nepal and India to finish the tournament strongly.

In the women’s Epee competitions, Amelie Yee and Genevieve Gilarski helped Australia secure 10th place. The team bounced back from an opening defeat  with wins over Vietnam and the Philippines, with Yee sealing the victory in a tense final bout against the Philippines before Australia concluded its campaigns against India.

Elite Athlete Alumni fencer Sam Mooney Grand also contributed to Australia’s 13th-place finish in the Men’s Foil team event, helping the squad record classifications victories over Thailand and Bahrain.

Earlier in the championship, Sydney University athletes also impressed in the individual events. Colin Chen and Mayuri Muralidharan both advanced to the Round of 32 in their respective disciplines, while Lorraine Tang produced Australia’s best Women’s Sabre results by finishing 31st overall. Tang claimed a convincing victory in the Table of 64 before eventually bowing out to Japan’s Yui Sano, who went on to claim the Asian Championship title.

The performance highlighted the quality of athletes emerging from Sydney University Fencing Club, with six current and former members proudly representing Australia against some of the world’s strongest fencing nations.

Sydney Uni Sport congratulates Colin, Mayuri, Amelie, Lorraine, Sam and Genevieve on their outstanding performance and looks forward to following their continued success on the international stage.
