Sydney Uni has won the first ever National Club Championship (NCC) after thrashing the Gold Coast Stingrays 45-13 on Sunday at The Square, University of Sydney.

The Lions dominated from the start, and went into half-time with a 30-0 lead before extending the scoreline to 45-0 in the second period.

The Stingrays finished the match with a bit of a late flurry, scoring two touchdowns.

Sydney Uni Lions quarterback Kiernan Dorney was named the game MVP after another sensational performance.

Lions Coach Andrew Ogborne was pleased with the result and confident that his team could win their 11th straight Waratah Bowl (NSW American Football League).

“A coach is never entirely satisfied, but we’re in good shape,” he said.

“I’d be disappointed if we don’t win it (the state title). The other teams in NSW are certainly closing that gap though – the UTS Gators, the Sutherland Seahawks and the Wollongong Mustangs are all very good teams.”

The Lions take on last year’s beaten finalists the UTS Gators in their game of the NSW American Football League on August 24.
