The Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) managed to raise the $50,000 required to fund the Junior (U19) and U23 athletes who will travelling around the world in 2013 representing Australia.

SUBC and the parents of the 11 athletes selected on Australian teams held a fundraiser lunch for around 175 guests at the Scots College Boatshed to raise the targeted $50,000 to contribute to athlete tour costs. Three SUBC coaches have also been selected to represent Australia.

The 2013 U23 World Championships will be held in Linz, Austria from July 24-28, while the Junior World Championships will be in Trakkai, Lithuania from August 7-11.

Sunday’s fundraising lunch was very graciously hosted by Mr Tony Squires, who was as usual professional and entertaining. Between entry tickets, raffles and auction items, enough funds were raised to cover all the seat fees for SUBC’s Sydney based rowers and to make a small contribution to one of the SUBC members who was selected in the Australian team from the Harvard rowing program.

SUBC would like to offer special thanks to the Parent Committee led by Julie Playfair and Rebecca Wilson and ably supported by the Koster, Hargreaves, Purnell and Sacre families and by Jen Blair.

SUBC athletes assisted with food and bar service and raffle ticket sales. Big winners on day were Judy Playfair who won seven nights in a luxury condo at Big White Ski resort and Janet Rundle who won a new 139cm LG HD TV and Home Theatre package.
