Sydney University Athletics Club have had another successful weekend, winning both the Open Female and Open Male New South Wales Cross Country Relays.
With a record nine teams competing for Sydney University, the Club was very well represented at the Championships.
The win marked the sixth consecutive title for the Women’s team. Sydney University’s Lara Hamilton got out to a great start for the A team, clocking the fastest split of the day over four kilometres with a time of 13.56. Junior international, Beth Croft ran a strong leg to extend their lead to 40 seconds with a time of 14.58.
Sydney University were consistent across the third leg with Sarah Marvin (15.03) extending the lead out to 1.22 minutes. On the final leg 1500m specialist Holly Campbell brought it home, clocking a quick 14.39 to take her team across the line. Sydney University’s A-team ran across the line 1.26 minutes ahead of UTS North, with Sydney University’s B-team finishing in third showing the depth of the club.
The Open Men’s A team were equally impressive with a consistent performance across the board leading to a victory. Jack Colreavy (12.23) got the team off to a strong start, with the team sitting in third spot after the first leg. Joe Burgess (12:37) ran second for Sydney University with the team maintaining their third place half way through the race. The shape of the race changed drastically after the third leg. Luke Schofield ran a consistent 12:44 guiding his team into first place heading into the last leg. Hugh Williams ran the fastest time of the day for the Sydney University team, guiding his group home to a first place finish.
