With 3 weeks to go until final selection of the Australian Olympic Track and Field team, Sydney Uni Athletic Club (SUAC) has 7 athletes currently selected for the team and another 7 athletes well and truly in the mix.

The list of currently selected SUAC athletes are Angie Ballard, Annie Rubie, Milly Clark, Brendon Reading, Ella Nelson, Michelle Jenneke and Josh Clark.

Josh Ralph, Jenny Blundell and Em Brichacek also have qualifying performances but have not yet been added to the team. Add to that Nick Hough, James Nipperess, Ian Dewhurst  and Jin Su Jung, who are currently in Europe chasing the qualifying performance.

So incredibly, just three weeks out from the close of selection, SUAC has a realistic chance of fielding 14 athletes in the Australian Track and Field team for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

In the month just passed Hough, Nipperess and Dewhurst have all just missed the qualifying standard by small margins. Jenny Blundell finished 11th in the Stockholm Diamond League Meet, a race which looked significantly like the Olympic final potentially could, Josh Ralph also won his first race of his European campaign, beating a strong field in Finland.

Back home on the domestic front, SUAC lead both the men’s and women’s winter premierships. This weekend the premiership moves to Nowra where the NSW Cross Country Championships will be held. SUAC will field strong teams in both the men’s and women’s events.
