Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) has triumphed once again at the 2025 NSW Treloar Shield Final, claiming the overall title for the third year running with an impressive total of 474.5 points. UTS Norths finished second with 406.5 points, followed by Bankstown in third on 377 points.
The club’s growing Para division continued to impress, finishing third overall behind North Rocks Carlingford and Hills District Senior. Paralympian Sarah Clifton-Bligh showcased her versatility across the 100m, 400m, 1500m, and shot put, while Mark Everett represented SUAC strongly in the men’s shot put and javelin.
SUAC’s men’s sprinters were unstoppable, sweeping the podium in the 100m.
- Ethan Quintana – 1st (10.85)
- Tom Bessell – 2nd (10.89)
- Billy Blair – 3rd (10.92)
The women’s sprint squad also impressed, with Alyssa Lowe, Annika Lynch, and Georgia Fichardt placing 3rd, 5th, and 6th overall respectively.
Despite blustery conditions, the 400m women dominated with podium finishes all around:
- Gen Cowie – 1st (56.49)
- Taylah Anderson – 2nd (57.20)
- Talahn Paki – 3rd (57.26)
In the men’s race, Jack Lynch placed 4th, with Lucas Negro and newcomer Matt Waugh securing 7th and 8th respectively in a strong showing.
The 1500m races turned into SUAC showcases. The men’s trio of Isaac Brooks, Luca Gillard, and Aiden Love delivered personal bests to sweep the top three positions. On the women’s side, Lucy Alder took the win, Amelia Behringer placed 4th, and Jane Tian ran a PB for 7th.
Relays once again highlighted SUAC’s depth:
- Men’s 2x100m – 1st (Billy Blair & Ethan Quintana)
- Women’s 2x100m – 2nd (Gen Cowie & Georgia Fichardt)
- Mixed 4x200m – 1st (Ethan Quintana, Georgia Fichardt, Tom Bessell & Annika Lynch)
The field athletes matched their track counterparts with stellar performances. In the high jump, University lab partners Mitchell Hatfield and Max Parker went 1–2, with heights of 2.00m and 1.85m.
Cristobal Corvalon made an inspiring return from injury to place 2nd in the men’s javelin, while Tali Baltineshter captured gold with a throw of 49.63m.
In the jumps and throws, Annika Lynch leapt to a huge PB of 5.65m to win the women’s long jump, Max Merckx placed 2nd in the men’s shot put (11.60m), followed closely by Avilash Tharmanesan in 4th (11.20m), and Lily Tilt finished 2nd in the women’s shot put with a throw of 10.20m.
