Sydney University had to be content with first innings points in their round two match against Campbelltown-Camden at Raby Oval on Saturday, when the hosts dug in to limit the damage.

Skipper Greg Mail made a bold decision late on the first day to declare at 1-137 after the Students had won the toss and dismissed Campbelltown-Camden for 132.

But the hosts batted for 75 overs to reach 7-201 in their second innings when stumps were drawn. Adam Coyte (66), Ryan Gibson (41) and Arjun Bagga (21 not out) held the innings together, while Nigel Cowell (4-22) and Liam Robertson (1-12) were the pick of the University trundlers.

Mark Faraday (51 not out), Ryan Carters (46 not out) and Scott Henry (38) provided all of Sydney University’s first innings runs.

Sydney University also snared first innings points in Second, Third and Fifth grades but lost on the first innings in Fourth Grade to end the weekend in third place on the Club Championship. Manly-Warringah (234), Northern District (214) and Sydney University (204) fill the top three berths.

Sydney University also lost their round two Metropolitan Cup match against Gordon at Beauchamp Oval, where the hosts won the toss and made 241 before dismissing Sydney University for 193.

And Sydney University’s Poidevin-Gray Shield (Under 21) side opened the season with a limited overs loss to Sydney at University No.1 Oval on Sunday.

Having won the toss and batted, Sydney University were dismissed for 124 off 46.1 overs. Sydney earned a bonus point when the reeled in the target to post 4-126 in just 24.4 overs.

Sydney University will host Blacktown at No.1 Oval in a two-day, third round match starting this Saturday.
