Sydney Uni Women’s Rugby Club’s 72-5 win at Campbelltown Showground on Saturday May 14 has set the students up for a tough three weeks ahead.

There would have been a temptation to play ad-lib footy once the girl’s established their solid lead, but sticking to structures in running rehearsed lines and actioning power plays, meant the student’s controlled play from start to finish. This discipline will serve the squad well in coming weeks as they compete with the top 4.

Again the Backrow stood out, with Grace having an extremely powerful game both in attack and defence, Fi and Emily were outstanding both at the breakdown and in support, while both Ash and Ili continued to control and shape backline attack.

“For me it’s great that everyone is getting a run and some of our new girls are really starting to shine and put pressure on our established players,” said Coach Phillip Brown.

Special mention must go to Ash “Sammy Radraddra two tries a game” Werner, Simone Karpani’s attacking skills, Lope’s strength and direction around the ruck and all girls who are contributing to our continuity skills and structure each week.

The girl’s strong showing against Campbelltown signals what’s to come for Waverley this Saturday at home on St Johns oval, 11am.
