Sydney University moved into seventh position with an eight point victory over Queanbeyan in their Round 6 NEAFL clash at Sydney Uni Oval No. 1.

Despite the closeness of the scoreline the Students always seemed in control, and were cheered on by a raucous home crowd – many of whom were former players who took part in the ‘Old Boys’ curtain-raiser. Sydney Uni eventually won 14.16.100 to 14.8.92.

Jacob Derickx, Ryan Brabazon, and Matt O’Dwyer led the way for Sydney Uni, their class underling the reason they were last week named in the preliminary NEAFL representative squad.

Gun new recruit Nick Winmar made an encouraging debut for Sydney University, snagging two goals, while Matt Powys stepped up with three majors in his return from suspension.

Sydney University now heads into what shapes as a huge local derby against a Hills Eagles side buoyed by two recent wins.

The two Sydney teams face each other on Saturday afternoon at 2pm at Bruce Purser Reserve.
