Sydney University Football Club’s (SUFC) take on long standing rivals Eastern Suburbs in round 9 of the Shute Shield competition at Woollahra Oval on this Saturday.

The East Beasts currently sit equal second with Southern Districts on the Shute Shield ladder, with the Students from Sydney University nipping at their heels, only one competition point behind in fourth.

Easts have had a couple of tight tussles in the first 8 rounds of competition, only just over coming Gordon in round 3 (19-18), Parramatta in round 5 (32-27), but have claimed the scalps of Eastwood (48-18) and an, at the time, undefeated Manly outfit (26-24).

Saturday promises to deliver another blockbuster showdown.

“This will be one of the biggest games of the season, and our players are really looking forward to the challenge that awaits them at Woollahra Oval on Saturday,” said SUFC Head Coach Todd Louden.

“With the way both clubs are playing and with the players having a well earned rest on the weekend this game will definitely take on finals intensity regardless of the weather. “

“This weekend will also see huge match ups in 2nd and 3rd Grade with Sydney University leading the competition and Eastern Suburbs sitting in second place,” said SUFC Director of Rugby Todd Dammers.

“All our teams have prepared well for this weekend, and the big weekends that we have coming up – Eastwood next weekend, followed by Parramatta.”
