Winger Angus Roberts bagged three of Sydney University’s seven tries as the Students towelled Randwick 47-7 in their Round 3 clash at University’s No.1 Oval on Saturday.
The Students led 25-nil at the break and added a bonus point fourth try soon after the resumption of play.
The win capped off a great day for the University, with wins in the four grades and three Colts fixtures lifting them to the top of the Club Championship ladder on 562 points, with Eastwood (529), Eastern Suburbs (440) and Manly (409) in their wake.
The win also erased some of the memories of the Round 2 capitulation to Manly at Manly Oval, when the Students gave up a handy lead to be pipped 28-26 by the hosts.
Operating behind a well-drilled pack, five-eighth Dan Kelly played a dominant hand for the Students on Saturday, while centre Michael Hodges continued his great early season form.
The Students cross the Bridge to meet Gordon at Chatswood Oval this Saturday. Both sides have won two from three and sit fourth and fifth on the Shute Shield ladder behind 2011 premiers Eastwood, Manly and Southern Districts.
