Sydney University notched their first win of the season in the State Super League with a two-nil disposal of Dulwich Hill at Arlington Reserve on Sunday.
The Students’ goals came from striker Christian Soares in the 38th minute and Michael Dowling in the 92nd minute.
Soares had a second bite of the cherry to post his goal. His spot kick from a penalty was saved by Dulwich Hill goalie Michael Frost but the ball rebounded to the feet of Soares, who made no mistake at his second attempt.
Dulwich Hill had their chances but couldn’t score an equaliser before the Students put the game out of reach with a late goal from Michael Dowling.
Sydney University coach John Caruana said the Students were determined to claim the three points after an opening round draw with Granville Rage.
“We didn’t want to be on two points from six and we were a little disappointed after last weekend’s draw,” he said. “We believe in ourselves but it is only week two so there is plenty of time yet.”
Sydney University Under 20s played a one-all draw with Dulwich Hill after opening the season with a 6-1 result against Granville Rage.
