Sydney University will face another stern test in their round 16 NEAFL fixture this weekend, away to third placed Ainslie in the nation’s capital.

The Students upset Ainslie in round 9 and will look to once again defeat their highly ranked opposition. After a disappointing performance last weekend Sydney Uni will need to bounce back against the Canberra based side, who have found some form after a strong 15 point win against fourth placed Eastlake last weekend.

In recent weeks the Students have made a habit of bringing their best to games against highly ranked opposition, but they will be looking to bounce back to winning form after a 15 point loss in the wet against the Sydney Hills Eagles last Saturday.

“Ainslie are in a spot of form at the moment and our players understand the necessary team play that is required to compete against the mature Canberra sides, especially when playing at their home ground,” said Senior NEAFL Coach Daniel Gilmore.

The Students are looking forward to playing on what should be a considerably faster ground this weekend after struggling in the horrendous conditions last weekend.

“We play Ainslie on Sunday after a hard fought loss in tough conditions last Saturday. The extra day break will allow our troops to recover after the hard wet weather against Sydney Hills Eagles,” explained Gilmore.

Gilmore was upbeat about the returns of Tom Elkington and Alex Dyson, who will provide some great momentum and effort in the forward line against an experienced defensive Ainslie outfit.

The game kicks off at 11:45am on Sunday at Ainslie Oval in Canberra.
