Sydney University disposed of West Harbour 41-14 in their Round three Shute Shield rugby clash at Drummoyne Oval on Saturday.

The Students ran in eight tries to two on the back of a dominant pack, with hooker Ciaran Loh and winger Simon Kennewell each bagging two touchdowns and flanker Jack McCalman, halfback Banjo Travers, outside-centre Henry Clunies-Ross and prop Sione Taufu’i also scoring. Taufu’I, who is in the Junior Wallabies squad, came off the bench in his First Grade debut for the Students.

West Harbour hooker Vaotangi Mafi and fullback Justin Marsters scored tries for the hosts, with five-eighth Kodie Drury-Hawkins converting both.

After losing their opening round match against Warringah 29-26 at Pittwater Rugby Park, Sydney University disposed of Randwick 34-21 at SU Football Ground in Round 2.

The win took Sydney University to second place on the Shute Shield ladder behind undefeated Northern Suburbs, with Manly, Gordon Eastwood and Warringah making up the top six.

In other grades, Sydney Uni won Seconds 41-17, Thirds 57-21 and Fourths 19-14. The Students also won First Colts 33-22, lost Second Colts 17-14 and won Third Colts 38-5.

Sydney University First Grade will travel to Mudgee next Saturday to take on Newcastle-based Hunter Wildfires at Glen Willow Oval – an annual event to take premier rugby to the bush.
