Sydney University Sport and Fitness (SUSF) seniors group fitness instructor John ‘Sparrow’ Douse’s classes have never been more popular.

The 75-year-old former Sydney University rugby union premiership winner and 1961 Wallaby fly-half runs six group fitness classes a week for seniors at the Sydney Uni versity Sports and Aquatic Centre.

The man known has ‘Sparrow’ has developed a cult following amongst SUSF gym goers.

Each class rotates between 25 different exercises. Each of them focuses on building strength, balance and endurance.

“Exercise for your upper body, your core muscles and your lower body,” said Sparrow, when he caught up with Channel Ten news reporter and SUSF member Andrew Brown.
