Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames guard Belinda Snell has been named Player of the Week for Round Three of the 2011/12 WNBL season following an outstanding all-round performance against the Logan Thunder on Friday night.

After returning to the league this season, the two-time Olympic Silver medalist has been integral in helping the Flames to an unbeaten 4-0 start to the year.

For the second-consecutive week the award has gone to a Sydney Uni player, with teammate Amy Denson taking out the honour in Round Two.

This week Snell narrowly edged out Townsville import Shanavia Dowdell, who led the Fire to their fourth-straight win of the season, along with Liz Cambage of the Bulleen Boomers for this week’s award.

Snell was on-fire from the outset in the Flames 82-67 victory over the previously undefeated Thunder, finishing with 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists. But her most impressive performance came from beyond the three-point arc, where she connected on five of her six three point attempts, the only one to miss a buzzer-beating attempt from over mid-court.

Snell continues to impact the game in all statistical areas, while clearly using her experience and leadership abilities to guide her side. She currently leads the league in assists, averaging 7.8 per game, along with ranking top-ten in the league in scoring (17.5 per game), total rebounds (30 from four games), blocks (1.5 per game) and steals (2.3 per game).
