The Honours Trophy, for the club scoring the most points at the NSW Rowing Championships, has been won by Sydney University Boat Club for a sixth year in succession.

The Students finished with 71.5 points to head off the University Queensland (47.75) and Sydney Rowing Club (26).

SUBC dominated the 2008 championships at Penrith, particularly in the eights, with the club winning the men’s and women’s eights, the men’s lightweight eight and the men’s and women’s Under-21 eights. The win by the men’s Under-21 eight was the sixth in a row for the Colleagues Cup, while the win by the men’s eight was the fourth in a row.

The Sydney University team of 50, with coaches Phil Bourguignon, Alan Bennett, Mark Prater, Mike Doyle and Toby Lister, took out 32 placings, including 15 firsts, seven seconds and 10 thirds.

At the end of the regatta, 19 Sydney University rowers were named in the 42-strong NSW squad for the interstate regatta at Penrith on March 9. Bourguignon was named coach of the NSW Queen’s Cup eight, and Prater as coach of the NSW men’s youth eight.

Sydney University rowers will also contest the Australian Championships at Penrith from March 2-8.
