The reliable boot of Daniel Arahu helped Sydney University to a 24-20 result over Hills District Bulls their Round 8 Sydney Shield rugby league match at Crestwood Oval on Sunday.

With each side scoring four tries, Arahu proved the difference with a 100 per cent strike rate.

The Students kept their cool after trailing 20-12 at halftime, and posted two late tries to come up with competition points.

John Paul Hannawe, Matthew Long, Joshua Boumelhem and Brock Pelligra crossed for the winners, while Tevita Piukana, Luke McDonald, Rhys Walpole and Ezra Gibson scored for the hosts.

Cabramatta remain the frontrunners in the Sydney Shield competition on 16 points after seven rounds, with East Campbelltown Eagles (14), St Marys (11), Ryde-Eastwood Hawks  (10), Guilford Owls (10) and Asquith Magpies (8) making up the top six. Sydney University are ninth on seven points, still within striking distance of the six.

Meanwhile, Sydney University started the Tertiary Championship competition with a 28-6 loss to UTS Wanderers on April 26, but hit back at the weekend with a 30-6 result over Macquarie University.

The Students will meet Western Sydney University Ducks in a Round 3 encounter at Bankstown Campus Oval this Saturday.

Round 1: UTS Wanderers 28 defeated Sydney University 6 at Blackmore Oval on 27 April.

Round 2: Sydney University 30 defeated Macquarie University Warriors 6 at Kellyville Park on Saturday.

Round 3: Sydney University versus Western Sydney University Ducks at Bankstown Campus Oval on Saturday, 11 May.
