Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) rowers, Cameron Girdlestone and Sasha Belonogoff, have taken gold at the World Rowing Cup 3 in Poznan, Poland, as part of the Australian Men’s Quadruple Scull.

The powerhouse crew, made up of James McRae, Cameron Girdlestone, Sasha Belonogoff and Karsten Forsterling, were the fastest qualifiers alongside Germany going into the A-final.

Australia pulled away from the pack by the halfway mark to leave Germany and Poland in the pursuit for second and third place.

The strong win also secured them the World Rowing Cup series for their boat class.

Post-race Belonogoff told Rowing Australia, “It was a good race for us given that it is only our second international race since we formed this combination. We have seven more weeks of training coming up in Italy and we don’t feel like we’ve had our best race yet.”

Perhaps their best race yet will come in Rio, less than 50 days away.

While seats to Rio are yet to be confirmed, with selectors assessing the fastest combinations based on World Cup performances, Girdlestone and Belonogoff look more determined than ever to prove their Olympic edge.
