Day 1 of the 2012 London Olympic Games will take place this Saturday 28 July and Sydney University athletes won’t have to wait long to be involved, with six rowers competing on the first day of competition.

The first Sydney Uni Olympians in action will be in the men’s rowing eight on Saturday evening (7:10pm Sydney time). The crew, which includes five members of Sydney University Boat Club, are strong medal contenders after they produced their best row of the international season at the final major regatta before the Olympics in Munich last month, taking the silver medal behind Poland.

A couple of hours later (9pm) fellow Sydney Uni rower Brodie Buckland will be competing in the men’s pair heats in Eton Dorney, Buckinghamshire.

On Sunday, nine of the 24 Sydney Uni athletes are in action.
