Sydney University came home with some brilliant results in the Australian University Championship – Rowing (AUC Rowing) this week, taking out the Men’s Overall Trophy and the Combined Overall Trophy. The women also finished a commendable second in their overall point score.

Held over a course of 2000m it includes races for single scull, double scull, pairs, fours and eights in categories for men and women. Coached by Rick Van Hooydonk (men’s) and Debbie Fox (women’s), Sydney Uni came home with gold medals in: the men’s eight, men’s double scull, men’s coxed four, men’s coxless pair, men’s single scull, women’s pair and the mixed eight. Silver medals were awarded to: the women’s lightweight quad, women’s eight and mixed coxed four.

By winning the men’s eight, Sydney Uni also take home the Oxford and Cambridge Cup for the first time since 2007.

The AUC rowing event was held in Ballarat from 30 September – 4 October as part of the Australian Uni Games. Held over five days, the Sydney University team performed superbly in their events, which included two days for warm up/practice/course inspection and 2-3 days for competition.
