Sydney University middle-distance runner Lachlan Renshaw returned to form with a win in the 800m at the NSW Championships held at Homebush on Sunday.
Renshaw clocked a time of 1:51.47 in edging out James Kaan and James Gurr.
The Sydney University Sports Scholarship holder and Bachelor of Commerce student had turned in an indifferent performance the previous weekend when he ran fifth at the Melbourne Track Classic.
He still leads a congested 800m pack vying for Commonwealth Games selection after running a Games A-qualifier of 1:45.73 in Germany last July.
Renshaw narrowly missed out on selection for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, but earned selection for the Beijing Olympic Games after winning the 800m at the 2008 Australian Track and Field Championships in Brisbane.
In the lead-up to the 2008 national title, Renshaw ran a personal best 1:45.7 at a Melbourne Grand Prix meet.
He’s hoping to repeat that effort at the 2009 Australian Championships and earn selection for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
