Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) representative Brendon Reading has qualified for next year’s IAAF World Race Walking Cup, after finishing second at Sunday’s Australian Road Walking Championships in Launceston.

Reading smashed the SUAC 20km walk record in the process, posting a time of 1.27.51.

A day earlier SUAC team mate Milly Clark finished fourth at the Australian Cross Country Championships – also held in Launceston.

Clark, a SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder studying a Bachelor of Applied Science/Masters of Nutrition at the University of Sydney, is having the best season of her career.

In the same race Eliza Barton (Bachelor of Animal & Veterinary Bio-Science) finished 13th. Clark and Barton were part of NSW women’s team that took home the silver medal.

In the men’s open race, Russell Dessaix-Chin was the lone SUAC representative. He finished a strong seventh and was a member of the NSW team that won the bronze medal.

In the women’s under 20’s race, SUAC’s Jenny Blundell (Bachelor of Exercise Physiology) finished third and was a part of the winning NSW team. Nat Archer (Bachelor of Science) was fourth and Emily Ryan (Bachelor of Nursing {Advanced Studies}) was 23rd, with both girls representing the ACT team which placed fifth in the team’s event.

SUAC will next compete at the NSW Half Marathon Championships on September 8th.
